EVERYWHERE
Everywhere began in desperation: what was I going to do with my young children, ages 3 and 5, during the Covid 19 lockdown of March - June, 2020? While parents of older kids had remote learning assignments, my oldest hadn’t started kindergarten yet and I was out of ideas on how to keep them occupied. As my children began to grasp the concept of “The Virus”, I realized that it was personified for them, like a dangerous, sentient creature. That seemed like a good cinematic story to explore. The problem was getting film gear, much less a film crew. Both a fear of contagion and of a possible economic collapse kept me from buying or renting film equipment, so I employed my kids as carpenters and painters to build the gear we needed. Homemade dollies, lights, gels and other equipment began to fill our garage and DIY During Lockdown Productions was born. With my Canon T3i (the best camera I had in the house) we started filming during the (gradually shorter) evenings between sundown and bedtime. It was an exciting family adventure to make this horror short.
